Integrating Jamf Pro with Apple’s Device Enrollment

Integrating Jamf Pro with Apple’s Device Enrollment

Hey, this is CJ with Jamf, and today we’ll
walk through integrating Jamf Pro with Apple’s Device Enrollment. Apple’s Device Enrollment, formerly known
as the Device Enrollment Program, or “DEP,” allows administrators to easily deploy and
configure iOS and macOS devices by automating MDM enrollment and supervision of devices
during setup. If you’ve already integrated with Device
Enrollment as part of Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager and are looking
for help renewing your existing server token, check out our “Renewing a Device Enrollment
Server Token File” video by clicking here, or finding it linked in the description below. Integrating with Apple’s device enrollment
is a pretty simple process, but we’ll need to make sure that we’ve signed up for Apple
School Manager or Apple Business Manager before we start. First, we’ll download the public key from
Jamf Pro. After logging in, click the settings gear
in the top right corner, then click “Global Management” in the sidebar. Then, click “Device Enrollment Program.” (DEP was the previous name for the Device
Enrollment integration.) Here, click “Public Key.” The Public Key will be saved to your default
downloads folder. Next, log in to Apple School Manager or Apple
Business Manager. You may be prompted to verify your identity
when logging in. In the sidebar, select “MDM Servers” in
the “Devices” category. Then click “Add New MDM Server.” Here you’ll enter a name for your MDM server. Now click “Upload File” and upload the
Public Key file we downloaded from Jamf Pro. Then, click “Save.” The server token file will download immediately. Now we’ll upload the server token file to
Jamf Pro. In Jamf Pro, click the “Settings” gear
in the top right corner of the screen, then click “Global Management.” Now click “Device Enrollment Program,”
and then click “New.” Enter a display name for the Device Enrollment
instance, and then click “Upload Server Token File” to upload the server token file
you downloaded from Apple. The information contained in the server token
file is displayed. Now, click “Save.” Finally, we’ll need to assign devices to our MDM server within Apple School Manager
or Apple Business Manager. Log in to Apple School Manager or Apple Business
Manager as a Device Manager, then click “Device Assignments” in the sidebar. Here you can choose the devices you’d like
to assign by Serial Number, Order Number, or by uploading a CSV File of device serial
numbers. Then you can select “Assign to Server”
in the “Choose Action” dropdown to assign these devices to your MDM server. Then, we can head back to Jamf Pro, select
our Device Enrollment Program instance, and click “Refresh.” If there is updated information in Apple School
Manager or Apple Business Manager, this information is displayed in Jamf Pro. For next steps, see our video on creating
a Device Enrollment PreStage in Jamf Pro by clicking here, or finding it linked in the
