Libraries Transform: Employment

Libraries Transform: Employment

I moved back in December of 2014, was unemployed
and needed help finding a job. So I heard about some programs
offered at the county library with +40, job-seeking workshops, resume workshops,
LinkedIn for beginners. My experience in those workshops
led to one-on-one counseling, interviews, and eventually a job. When you’re job seeking
and you’re unemployed, it’s like, lonely and isolating, and you go to these workshops
and you’re around other job seekers. It helps you stay connected. I was surprised at the quality
of the workshops, the quality of the staff. I think I was surprised at the level
of expertise I found at the library. When I was working with
a library staff member, she was very professional and she shared a lot of tips with me
from her own experience. She gave me very specific coaching
that put me in a place to find a job. The library was not
a place I thought of right away, but it turned out being the best place
for my job search.
