Outsource Solutions | Skills Growth Programme


My name is Terry Moore. I’m CEO of Outsource Solutions based in Antrim. We are a technology services company, so basically we look after other people’s IT. Over the years Outsource have had a great relationship with Invest NI. The most recent programme we’ve been involved in is the Skills Growth programme and that has worked really well for us and we’re in
the middle of a two-year programme for delivering training and development for
the entire team here at Outsource. We saw it as a requirement of our business that we delivered training and development across the team here and not to
focus exclusively on technical. We wanted to develop the rest of the team as well. We worked very closely with Claire Liddy at Invest NI and Claire was fantastic for us in terms of trying to understand the process. Through that process we understood
our own needs much better and we found that with working with Claire and her team, we
were able to build out a training and development programme for the entire team here at Outsource. I’m Anthony Quinn from Outsource, I’m one of the technical specialists here. Invest NI helped us to develop our Skills and Growth programme and also internally our processes are in training. So, looking at the metrics
around what successful training looks like, developing personnel zone specific
development plans and then also skills matrices as well. So, that actually helped
us to define different roles in the organisation which we didn’t have a
structure before. Now as the business is growing we’re actually using that
structure to actually recruit as well. So, it’s been an added bonus to us. Our
customers have benefited from this programme as well because for them, from their perspective we’ve gained a new skill sets we can help service them more
efficiently. Again skills that we didn’t have before
we can I offer them to them. So again, making our business offer more attractive
to them and again has made us more competitive in the marketplace that we
can offer these. We would have a very open approach to
these sort of things, I think our staff understand that we genuinely want them
to improve and be better, are very committed to making sure that they have
the skills to offer them the flexibility that they want in their careers, but,
their main reason to stay with us is because they enjoy working with Outsource and I think at every opportunity everybody is looking for ways of training and
developing the team. An interest in development for us was that we actually extended that past the core requirements of Outsource as a company
and we have a training incentive here now with the team, that if they have
anything that they’re interested and developing we even it’s a personal skill,
we would actively encourage that and support it; both financially and with time. I think our staff can see a genuine commitment on the part of Outsource to drive their careers and their skills and raise their stock and I think that’s something that has been repaid in terms of the effort and
the commitment that we’ve seen. Genuinely, it’s been a pleasure for us to work with the Invest NI skills team and Invest NI have committed an awful lot of
their time and their energy to helping us get through this process and that’s something that we definitely benefit from. My experience of the Skills Growth programme has been that they are better when they are here and we are better as a company as a result of investing in their skills.
